Análise epistemológica dos modelos e objetivos explicativos, e dos conceitos e princípios metodológicos fundamentais que regem os diferentes domínios das ciências da vida. Alem da clássica temática do reducionismo serão discutidos tópicos como distinção entre explicações por causas próximas e explicações por causas remotas, a gramática dos conceitos de função e adaptação, a natureza das explicações funcionais e as selecionais, e a diferencia entre teorias transformacionais e teorias variacionais das mudanças evolutivas.

HISTÓRIA DA BIOLOGIA – FIL 3115

Estudo epistemológico da constituição dos diferentes domínios das ciências da vida e da evolução conceitual das suas principais teorias, com ênfase no surgimento da Biologia Evolucionaria e da Fisiologia Experimental no século XIX. No que tange ao primeiro tópico serão analisadas as teses de Buffon, Lamarck, Cuvier, Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, Humboldt e Darwin. No que tange ao segundo serão analisados os programas propostos por X. Bichat a C. Bernard para o desenvolvimento da fisiologia.
